Common Minimum Programme (CMP) for Qualitative improvement of Primary education
K.V. Rambi, a project school under N.H.P.C. opened on 09.04.2007 during the session 2007–08. The school has the following comprehensive report pertaining to the Common Minimum Programme (CMP) for Qualitative improvement of Primary education for the month of June 2010.
1. Infrastructural Facilities in the School.
* Classroom/ space for learning : Currently there are 9 rooms in the school. Out of these 9 rooms 1 is being utilized in common for staff room, library and examination purpose.
* Drinking water facility by aqua guard with adequate storage facility.
* Separate toilet facility (one each) for boys and girls.
* Small playground with sufficient play material facilities.
* Computer classes are being imparted to the students from the month of July 2008. Students are being appraised in the usage of computers.
The school holds classes up to class VIII. There is obviously shortage of space in terms of rooms for learning and conducting activities. A common room for computer, library and examination has been transferred to the school by the project authorities during the month under consideration. The VMC meeting was held on 06-04-2009 regarding the upliftment of CMP programmes etc.
2. School Management and Community Support
* Children and teachers' attendance is up to the mark
* Support for academic, financial and TLM is good.
* Learners' assessment is done on regular basis through comprehensive evaluation.
* Books are available timely. Purchase of books has been done to enrich the library with books
* and magazines with primary children at the core of things.
3. School and Classroom Environment
1. Physical Environment – It is conducive for effective teaching.
2. Social Environment – It is cordial and every attempt is made to make the environment congenial for learning
3. Pre – school facilities – A health check up was held during the previous session. The next is due to be organized soon.
4. Children are motivated and inspired through awards, certification, etc. and every opportunity is given to develop confidence.
5. Children were exposed to Cluster level Sports and CCA competitions held at K.V. Bengdubi on 02.12.2008. Twenty one (21) children represented the school in different events. Three prizes have been bagged by the students of the school. Ku. Aswani Basore of Class II got the 1st prize in Poem recitation competition while Master Sudhakar Kumar of Class 4th bagged the 3rd prize in long jump and cricket ball throw. It was a valuable exposure for the children of the school. Participation certificates have been distributed to students in morning assembly.
In addition to this, children from the school have been participating in various competitions and cultural activity that the Project organizes from time to time.
4. Curriculum and Teaching Learning Materials.
1. Existing curriculum and its coverage – The curriculum designed as per NCF guideline is comprehensive and gives adequate opportunity to both the teacher and taught towards all round development. A time bound approach through the split – up of syllabus gives adequate time to execute the same.
2. Curriculum revision exercise is done as per the split – up duration
3. Competency – based materials has to be enhanced and will be brought to the desired level in a systematic and programmed fashion.
4. Blackboard and its usage is good.
5. Textbooks for classes Ist to Vth has been procured for the academic session of 2008-09 and is accessible to the children.
6. Library and its use – There is provision for library facility to be attached with each class. Books have already been procured which includes story books and encyclopedias. A few more books are being purchased. Efforts are being made to take subscription to children's digest and other related magazines. A few books were provided by N.H.P.C. Due to lack of sufficient rooms, library is currently being used in common with staff room. Learners are provided with every opportunity to make an everlasting bond with books .
7. Laboratory / activity / kits and their use – There is dearth of laboratory for children. However, a list of scientific instruments and equipments viz. magnets, lenses, beakers, funnels, test tubes, etc. have been purchased through CMP. The same is being effectively used by the teachers concerned for promoting activity oriented teaching.
5. Teacher Preparation
· Shortage of staff has been overcome by the appointment of teachers on contractual basis. (Two PRTs, one vocational Music & Dance) ·
Teachers are competent to develop and use TLM. · Motivation level of the teachers and support available to them is good.
· In service courses and academic inspection, an activity co-coordinated by RO's/ clusters plays a vital role in preparation of teachers to get the necessary feedback.
· Principal is actively involved in monitoring teachers.
6. Classroom Practices and Processes
1. Classroom organization – Seating arrangement row wise.
2. Classroom setting provides adequate lighting and ventilation.
·Models and charts prepared by students are highlighted in the classroom
· Pupil – Teacher Ratio (PTR) – 11:1
· Method of introducing the topic is motivating and power point presentation for different topics has been carried out. viz. Parts of speech and Team work for English of Class V, Dispersal of seed for EVS of Class V, similar sounding word with different meanings, Use of a and an and Use of Mr. and Mrs. for English of Class II.
· Teaching- learning process is activity oriented
· Student's initiative in the teaching learning process is good.
· Comprehensive assessment is carried out at a regular fortnightly/ weekly frequency.
· 'One sentence a day' project in Spoken English has been initiated. (List of sentences attached)
· Two Spoken English classes per week per class has been arranged and brought into effect (copy of notice enclosed).
7 . Learners' Assessment, Monitoring & Supervision
· Grade – Adopted as per KVS guidelines for Classes 3 -5
· Internal assessment (CCE) for classes 1 and 2
· Periodicity of assessment (Unit tests, cumulative test, Annual) – Chalked out on a session to session basis as per split up of syllabus.
· Recording procedures in school is good.
· Parent Teacher Association is the platform to give feedback to parents. A PTA meeting was held on 18th of August 2008 after completion of the 1st term exam of the students. The second PTA meeting was held on 26th Nov. 2008 after completion of Half Yearly exams. The turnout of the parents was immense and it turned out to be a success.
